If you’ve ever felt like you’ve fallen off track in your business and the only way forward is to start again from scratch, you’re not alone.
In this post, I’m sharing a powerful shift to help you stop the stop-start cycle, reconnect with where you actually are and move forward with clarity using what you’ve already built. Let’s dive in.
Why falling off track makes you want to start over
There’s a moment most women in business experience at some point. A moment when things feel messy, when progress feels unclear and when the momentum you had seems to have disappeared. And your first instinct when that happens is to scrap everything and start again.
Because a new plan feels cleaner. A fresh start feels more in control. And it gives you the illusion you’re fixing the problem.
But in reality, starting over is rarely the solution.
The hidden cost of constantly starting over
Starting again might feel productive, but it often creates a cycle that keeps you stuck. Because every time you reset, you lose:
- The progress you’ve already made
- The data you’ve gathered
- The lessons you’ve learned, and
- The momentum you’ve started building
And over time, this becomes a pattern.
You begin to associate discomfort or lack of clarity with needing a new direction, rather than recognising it as a signal to pause and reassess. I call this the stop-start cycle. And it’s the biggest thing I see that slows business growth for my clients.

What’s really going on when you feel off track
Most of the time, you’re not actually back at the beginning. It just feels that way because you’re too close to see clearly.
When you’re deep in your business, it’s easy to lose perspective. You’re focused on what’s not working, what feels unclear or what hasn’t happened yet. And so you become disconnected with where you are and that narrows your view. You stop seeing:
- What’s working
- What’s already in motion
- How far you’ve actually come
This is where frustration builds and where the urge to start over kicks in. What you actually need in that moment isn’t a new plan, it’s perspective.
The shift: Pausing instead of starting over
This is something I support my clients with all the time. Whether it’s during a Breakthrough Brew strategy session or longer-term inside Biz-Mentum, there comes a point where things feel messy or unclear and the temptation to reset shows up. And instead of burning everything down, we do something much simpler and much more effective.
We pause. We zoom out. And we look at the bigger picture.
Because when you can see your business clearly again, your next step becomes obvious.
How to get back on track (without starting from scratch)
If you’ve been feeling off track lately, here’s what I want you to do this week. Step away from your laptop for a moment. Make yourself a coffee. Then come back and ask yourself these two questions:
1: What have I already done so far?
Look at what you’ve created, started, tested or put into motion. Capture it all, even the things that feel small or unfinished.
2. What’s my next best step from here?
Not from the beginning. From where you are right now.
This is the part most people skip. They jump straight to “What should I do next?” without grounding themselves in what already exists. But your next step is rarely something new, it’s almost always right in front of you, built on something you’ve already started.

Rebuilding momentum, one step at a time
Getting back on track doesn’t require a big, dramatic overhaul. It comes from pausing, reconnecting with where you’re at, what you’ve already achieved and taking one simple step forward. That step might be:
- Finishing something you already started.
- Following up on a conversation.
- Publishing something you’ve been sitting on.
- Refining what’s already there instead of replacing it.
It doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to move you forward.
Because momentum doesn’t come from starting over. It comes from continuing from when you already are.
Why this matters more than you think
Every time you choose to continue instead of restart, you strengthen something important: You build trust in yourself. You prove that you can follow things through. You create consistency in your business.
And that’s what leads to sustainable growth.
